Joan Mitchell, a painter I greatly admire made extensive use of the diptych and triptych format. This quadriptych carries the concept one step further. The multi-panel format can be seen as a metaphor for interpersonal relationships. Two or more objects that, while physically separate, still need one another to create a cohesive whole.
