ODDMENT: INTERLACING
YVETTE
3mm charcoal polyester felt, 1/4" milky white (matte 51% light transmission white) acrylic sheet, carbon paper tracing, Nu Pastel, worsted cotton yarn, woven cord.
26.5" x 21.5" x 2" unframed
During COVID-19 closures, with no access to the maker space where I use a laser cutter, I began working the acrylic sheet with hand tools and using materials left over from previous projects. I began exploring different relationships between some of my larger acrylic sheet leftovers and industrial felt. These pieces still depend on numerical values to determine their formal structure, placement of line, shape, and color relationships. Oddment: Interlacing began with the simple connection of thick acrylic weaved into the felt. The top bar of stitches was inspired by a Sashiko process diagram I saw on Pinterest. This also uses the back stitch and laced double straight stitch. It is based on a 17-digit sequence from pi.
