A THOUSAND MILES TO NO WHERE
Smoke Drawings Series
Gouache, Glitter and Smoke on Paper
18" x 12" x 1.5", framed in white
Inspired by Film Noir, Federico Fellini and Piero Pasolini, this smoke drawing was developed from sketches made in gay and transgender dive bars in New Haven such as Partners and York Street Cafe while I was undergoing my graduate studies at Yale. Depicting two figures lighting cigarettes in an imaginary space of dramatic color, mysterious shadows and glitter adding qualities of reflecting and shimmering light, that loosely plays with the metaphor of getting lit and the creative process scorching and smoking the paper to create these pieces.
