Abstraction joins representation to form surreal imagery; a reflection of the drama, fragility and beauty behind observations of a shifting macro environment. I begin by creating an overall field of atmospheric colors that bleed into one another. By contemplating the resulting positive and negative shapes, and merging them with thoughts I have about environmental shifts in the landscape, my imagery begins to form, layer by layer. My intention is to present a surreal landscape that evokes questions about its own beauty and endurance within the layered fragility of the fleeting life forms it sustains.
