DREAM OF THE LONE STAR (AFTER JOSSE LIEFEERINXE)
Oil on linen
40" x 30" x 1.5" unframed
This piece was inspired by a trip to Sedona, AZ. I saw one night a star shaped paper lantern in a house in the middle of the desert. The angel warrior killing the demon is Saint Michael, whose iconography as well as Saint George's has always fascinated me. In the painting you can see the star lamp . The ornamental vases with the novelty dentures canceling the heroic fantasy of the main motive work as a kind of joker figure or maybe the god Janus.
