Acrylic, oil, needlepoint on canvas
36" x 36" unframed
17 Flavors was derived from the repetition of the grid which is one of my muses.
The needlepoint was created before the painting. To incorporate the needlepoint into the painting, I slash a hole through the canvas and then attach the needlepoint from the back of the canvas by stitching it into opening into the canvas. This creates an image that seems to expose a window into a space behind the actual picture plane. The repetitive mark of the grid of the canvas creates a "layered look" going into the picture plane. This piece was featured in a group show at Tufenkian Fine Arts in Glendale, CA. The curator was Peter Frank.
