The images of flowers in my compositions originate from photos friends send to me–thinking of me through flowers. Using flowers as a stand-in for myself (Flores), I create room for new language propositions, through which I mediate my subjectivities and identity formations. I deconstruct the images by drawing them with soft-pastels and transferring to multiple surfaces. Through this process I hope to give room to the flowers to develop their own language, or at least resposest the language that has been imposed onto them.
I received an image of roses in the snow, with a line from a T.S. Eliot. poem. The image and the title of the piece inform the composition of the series ‘early roses’.
