The painterly gestures are derived from outlines within the image of the roses. These outlines shift around the surface. The colors are derived from colors in the photograph that was used to reference the original drawing. And the title is a phrase a close friend said as we were walking down a street with many tall trees on a calm afternoon mid-fall. As some of the leaves fell from the tree my friend proclaimed, ‘Today is a good day to be a leaf!’
