MICHAEL
I was born and raised in Northern California and became interested in art & architecture at an early age. I decided to study Engineering at California Polytechnic University (SLO), while continuing to take architecture & art classes on the side. While in college, I became very interested in math and physics and this interest greatly affects my approach to my art. My pieces are colorful layered forms (some as many as 14) influenced by my interest in patterns, geometric shapes and shadows...graphic….yet free flowing...creating three dimensional feelings through the use of bright acrylic paints, epoxy, glass and paper. The final work is very 3-dimensional, applied on a 2-dimensional format, some have labeled it Abstract Illusionism. Although most pieces seem random, each piece is thought out in advance and measured to locate the lines and circles into specific patterns to create the 3-dimensional abstraction. I spend most of my idle time studying artists and visiting galleries/museums. My early career took me to most parts of the United States for extended periods of time and I have spent a great amount of time in one of my favorite cities, Barcelona Spain, where I have been able to study my favorite architect, Gaudi. I have also been an avid art collector since the age of 18 and I have traveled most parts of Europe, Cuba and Mexico to explore art, collect art and meet artists. My work have been collected by corporations and art collectors across America, Europe & Asia. Currently my work can be seen at Roche Bobois Paris SF, Arttitud SF & Boston Art Boston MA. Past Solo Exhibits include; Fourth St Gallery (Berkeley CA), North Point Gallery (San Francisco CA), Room Gallery (Mill Valley), Triton Mezzanine Gallery (San Francisco CA), 201 California (San Francisco CA), Salon 801 (San Francisco CA) & SOMA Grand (San Francisco CA). |
