Nature’s infinite array of beautiful forms and patterns are my muse. It’s feast for the eyes is an invitation to dwell on the surface but ultimately a distraction for deeper themes such as; energy, movement and the flow of life and death as the natural cycles of nature. These ideas are the underpinning of my work.
Whether I am meticulously hand cutting paper and applying it to a panel or engraving onto the smooth surface of Lucite: shapes, forms and patterns are my language.
When I am doing Paper Mosaics, which is essentially a highly specialized form of collage, I use all types of decorative and recycled papers. Often, I will subdue the patterns on the papers with a wash of paint so it steps into the back ground, only to be realized upon closer inspection. In this process, the under drawing is the structure from which the collage will emerge, piece by piece like a mosaic.
When working with Lucite, I use a Dremel tool like a pencil, engraving into the surface, creating grooves that capture pigment and reveal the markings. Working both sides enables me to layer the images which creates depth and movement where a story can unfold. The transparent nature of the Lucite interacts with light, deepening the colors, lines and patterns which I apply to the surface.
My Specialty is commissioned work for private collectors or interior designers and art consultants.
