Dave's work reflects the vision of an old soul. From his subject matter to his chosen medium, he pays his respects to a time gone by, while introducing its relevance in this contemporary world. In his Art, he yearns to channel the beauty of American mid-century optimism, when design and craftsmanship reigned supreme.
His first Muse is his process… Reduction Linocut. This labor-intensive medium, innovated by Picasso in the 1950s, requires tremendous amounts of technical skill, precision, foresight, and patience. Each work is created using a single block of linoleum; hand-carved, hand-inked and printed in color stages, taking weeks, to months, to complete the very small editions.
The inspiration for his subject matter lies in the urban landscape of his native Los Angeles and the sunny disposition of the Left Coast. As Dave explores the playful way light creates intricate shadows cast across aging neon or lengthens the fins of a classic car, the artist creates a colorful, timeless snapshot for us to ponder.
